After marrying the love of my life Åsa in Scotland and spending the most of my life in this beautiful country around my family and friends, I decided to move to Sweden to start a life with my new Swedish wife and leave my loving family behind – but to me, I was only going over the water and I could easily fly home for a visit.
I would certainly miss my family, especially my Son and daughter, Billy & Angela – but this was the best thing for their father and they understood that I would always be there for them.
I moved to Sweden with next to nothing, bringing along my trophies I won with the Judo and power lifting and an ambition to do some thing in my life !
The first hurdle for me, was to learn the Swedish language and I can tell you- the Swedish language is one of the hardest languages to learn- they say Chinese is easier !!
Anyway, I spend around 2 years back in school sitting at a desk learning to speak Swedish and as soon as I was confident to take my exams – I took them and passed & then I was able to look for a job and put my plans into Action.
I remember my first ever job was working in the forest , cutting down trees and keeping the forest tidy- the money was rubbish, but I was out there working and getting back into some kind of a routine – but I wasn’t going to stop there – I found work quite easy, I guess it was my personality and I was willing to work hard and companies thought it would be different to employ a Scotsman.
Anyway, I worked my way through a lot of companies, until I found the job I was happy with – it was with the biggest building companies in Sweden and I stayed there for about 4 years.
This abled me to buy a house in the country and so far I had accomplished part 2 of my plan – and soon after, I put my final plan into action – start my own company !!!!!
This was when ” Limerick’s Kakel & Bygg ” was born ” Limerick’s tiling and building work “.
I have had the company for 15 years now, and god knows how many bathrooms I have done and how many people I have met ?
As I write this bog entry, I will be 62 years of age next week & I hope to continue with my company until I retire- we will see what happens, as my wee body isn’t getting any younger and I have been doing building work since I left school at the age of 15.
So all plans have been accomplished, and I have a good live in Sweden, with a wonderful wife and a lovely Swedish family, as I said, wasn’t easy at first moving here- but if you work hard and put your mind into what you want to achieve- you will do it.
